009 Welshpool and Llanfair Countess / Earl Narrow Gauge Locomotive Model kit
This is an 009 scale model of the Beyer Peacock locomotives (Countess & The Earl) that run on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. The model is in either the original form or the 'Swindonised' version that they were rebuilt as in 1929 & 1930, and which form they still have today. To choose which one, select either 'Cambrian' or 'GWR / BR / Preserved' when you select the model. The main differences are the smokebox and boiler fittings, and the cab was lengthened.
The model is 41 mm in height (from the railhead), 76mm in length (90mm including the couplings) and 27mm in width.
The model is made from 3d printed resin and is supplied unpainted. It includes couplings but does not include handrails. The holes for handrail knobs are located on the cab doors, smokebox and front of the tanks, and may need a little opening out with a small drill. I recommend Alan Gibson short handrail knobs (4M53) and 0.45mm wire (4M136).
The model is designed to fit a Kato 11-105 chassis, and so the running gear and valve gear are 'hidden' behind non-prototypical sideplates. I'd be happy to supply the model without sideplates for advanced modellers who'd like to fit their own chassis.
The kit requires painting but is simple to assemble. The cab roof is a separate part to allow the cab interior to be painted.
I can supply the kit with and without the Kato chassis - please select the right option when addding to the basket
For every model sold, I'll donate £2 to the Countess Restoration Fund so that we'll be able to see both locos running in 2027.
Skirtless Version: Note this model kit is designed to use a readily available chassis and be made with a modicum of care and skills. Some modellers have asked if I can supply the kit without the skirts, so that they can make a more realistic model. I'd be happy to supply this, but it will take skills to fit it to a chassis. If you'd like one, order the 'without chassis' open and add a note or message me to say you'd like it without the skirts. The cylinders are a big part of the look of this loco. I can provide the skirtless version with hollow cylinders, or without.
